Research has discovered many benefits to ingesting green tea. In this article I will cover the benefits of green tea in cancer treatment and prevention.

Cancer Generally
Population based research studies have discovered lower rates of cancer in nations where green tea is regularly consumed. It cannot be proven that consuming tea is causing the lower cancer rates, but it does indicate that it may have a role.

Breast Cancer
Animal studies have found some indication that polyphenols in green tea slow or stop the growth of breast cancer cells. A study of almost 500 woman demonstrated that woman who consumed the most tea had the lowest rates of breast cancer. Additionally, woman who consumed 5 or more cups per day before being diagnosed with early stage breast cancer were less liable to have a recurrence after treatment.

Colorectal Cancer
A Chinese study discovered that woman who consumed green tea often had a 37% lower risk of developing colorectal cancer.

Lung Cancer
Cell and animal based studies have hinted that polyphenols may inhibit the growth of lung cancer cells, and also cause cell death. More human based inquiry is needed.

Bladder Cancer
One study discovered that woman who were day-to-day tea drinkers had lower rates of bladder cancer. A follow-up to the same study discovered that tea drinkers who developed cancer had a significantly improved 5 year survival rate. Another study discovered that compounds in green tea caused cancer cells to grow in closer groups, constraining the spread of cancer and making it easier to treat.

Ovarian Cancer
A study of ovarian cancer patients in China discovered that individuals who consumed the most green tea survived the longest. Another study in Sweden found that just small amounts of tea, a cup or less per day, decreased ovarian cancer risk.

Esophageal Cancer
Research into green tea's effect on esophageal cancer have been mixed. Some have demonstrated benefit, and others have demonstrated higher risk of cancer with tea consumption. Consuming very hot beverages has been demonstrated to raise rates of mouth and esophageal cancer. The high tempurature can harm cells, and increased cell damage raises the risk of cancer. It's advised to let your tea cool to a sensible tempurature before consuming.

Pancreatic Cancer
Population based studies have demonstrated a decreased risk of pancreatic cancer in people who often drink green tea. This was particularly true in woman, who had a 50% decrease in cancer rates. Men had a 37% reduction.

Prostate Cancer
Cell based studies have demonstrated that green tea extract prevents prostate cancer growth. Human based studies have demonstrated decreased cancer risk in people who consume tea often. One study showed an 86% reduction in prostate cancer in men who consumed the most tea. Another discovered that EGCG, a polyhenol, lowered PSA levels. PSA is marker of prostate cancer risk.
